Adopt-a-Creek is a local community project where volunteers adopt a creek in Austin and make continuous effort to keep the creek clean. As one of the corporate partners, the Silicon Labs team joined the KAB’s (Keep Austin Beautiful) clean Shoal Creek event last weekend and swung into action to complete the mission of making a visible improvement to the area.
A total of 148 volunteers, including the Silicon Labs team, gathered to pick up garbage around the Shoal Creek starting from Allendale Road/2222 all the way to Lady Bird Lake. To encourage the volunteers and have a fun time, the team came up with a contest for the ‘most unusual’ item found. The team found lots of plastic bags, bottles, cigarettes in and around the dense vegetation and on the water. Despite a typical warm and humid day in Austin, the team enjoyed the time out among nature – spotting frogs, fish and humming birds. After hours of valuable time, the team had cleared 1.4 tons of trash from the creek!
Two winners were also picked for the most unusual items found during the event – David, who found the ‘lost Jack’ and William for the tutu.
We share our success with local communities. Check out a variety of Silicon Labs community programs here.
