How do you celebrate your holiday with your child? At Silicon Labs, our engineers held a special holiday event for their children as well as for those who are less fortunate.

This year’s donation event was held in association with Operation Blue Santa, a non-profit community-based corporation, governed by volunteers and employees of the Austin Police Department. Operation Blue Santa has been going since 1972 when two patrol officers realized that some families on their patrol beat would not have gifts or food for their children at Christmas. The Silicon Labs team joined the Blue Santa donation by dropping off new and unwrapped toys and books into special barrels on each floor of the Austin office. Our goal this year is to give 4,000 families a full holiday meal and wrapped Christmas gifts for every child under 14 years old.

We love donation events because they are meaningful and fun! On November 20th, employees enjoyed delicious soup from a soup sale, the proceeds of which were used to make a monetary donation to Operation Blue Santa. Two weeks later, we hosted many young visitors and two very special guests, Santa and Mrs. Claus. The young visitors were our employees’ children who came to the office to donate toys and learn how to solder their own ornaments based on Silicon Labs’ chips. The children listened to beautiful holiday music performed by our company band and also greeted the Santa couple while sitting on Santa’s lap.

Here’s a video showing how we spent a great day with the children:
